Resin casting
A log of mistakes, so that hopefully I learn from them:
- Cardboard masters need a varnish to seal the outside when making a mould using silicone. Still doable without, but expect to have to destroy the master when removing it from the silicone mould.
- Not adhering the master to the bottom of the mould box, resulting in the master floating.
- Mould box was not flat, leading to a slightly tilted mould. While casting the resin, needed to add shims to raise one side.
- A firm silicone mould is a huge pain when removing the master from it.
- Consider if the master has any overhangs that might make it difficult to remove. If any, a two-part mould may be better.
- Silicone moulds are really expensive for prototyping. Consider clay moulds.
